Foster Care Program Information
Foster Care Volunteers are needed! As a foster parent, you will provide in-home care to animals that need a break from the shelter or group farm environments, are just born and too young to adopt, or require special attention and/or training. We prefer the foster home and family environment to the small animal kennels and group housing for horses.
Volunteers receive animal-care training and supplies. You will have complete control over your time commitment and the animals that get placed in your home. In return, you are helping wonderful BFAS pets become successfully adopted.
|
Foster Care Volunteers are required to:
· Be eighteen (18) years of age or older
· Have health insurance
· Have a valid driver’s license and transportation
· Attend a volunteer orientation
· Have good communication skills
· Have a room, stall, paddock or area in where foster animal(s) can be kept separate from owned pets as needed.
Remember: fostering saves lives! Foster caregivers provide an invaluable service to our shelter and to the animals fostered! |

Our Mission: |
The Black Forest Animal Sanctuary (BFAS) is a rescue and rehab farm dedicated to helping those animals that are abused, neglected, or no longer wanted by their current owners. Our organization has farms based in Colorado with Nationwide adoption & rehabilitation as our resources allow. We are also known as Charlotte & Arthur Romero Wildlife. A 501c3 not for profit.
For pet animals/small animals, we are licensed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture, Pet Animal Care Facilities Act (PACFA) Program. We use a network of foster homes to place cats and dogs for adoption. See foster information below.
 |
Not Just a Horse Rescue! |
BFAS also rescues small animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and goats! Visit our small animals gallery to see what we currently have at the farm! Just use the menu under "small animals" at the top of the page.

Love animals? Click the button below to donate now and help the animals at our rescue! All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. We are all volunteer and need your support!
Examples: It costs $150 to feed one horse for one month. A vet exam will start around $200 and could reach $1000-10K in an emergency in just a few minutes. Intake for a new dog which includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, worming, leash, collar, microchip, and a toy costs well over $300 for each dog. A load of hay costs over $3500.
